West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose, on Thursday, directed sharp criticisms at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's administration, citing the rape-murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Bose accused the state government of failing to enforce the law properly, while alleging that parts of the police force are criminalized and politicized.

"Parents (of the victim) shared heart-breaking details with me, which I then communicated to the Home Minister. Swift actions were initiated within two days," Bose stated. He emphasized the public's demand for justice and criticized the government's deteriorating administrative practices. "Two wrongs, even if contradictory, do not make a right," he remarked. Bose urged the government to take the public into confidence and act decisively.

The Governor stressed the need for accountability, stating, "Wrongdoers should be punished to restore public trust in the government. Currently, that trust is eroded due to selective law enforcement and police corruption." He warned the government not to test the people's patience, emphasizing the urgency for concrete action over excuses.

In a related development, BJP national spokesperson Amit Malviya labeled as "explosive" a letter dated August 10 allegedly linking Dr. Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Hospital, to the crime. Malviya demanded the Chief Minister's resignation and called for polygraph tests for Banerjee and top police officials to uncover the truth. The incident has prompted widespread protests, leading to significant arrests, including a civic volunteer and Dr. Ghosh, on allegations of financial misconduct.

Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari reiterated the opposition's stance, noting discrepancies in the government's renovation order timeline for the hospital, which heightened calls for accountability. Nationwide protests continue as citizens demand justice for the victim.
