BJP Dominates MCD Zonal Ward Polls, Overcoming AAP Challenges

The BJP secured significant victories in the MCD zonal ward polls, defeating AAP and consolidating its influence in the civic agency's standing committee. Despite controversy over the election's legitimacy cited by Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi, the elections proceeded smoothly amid heavy security, marking a clear win for BJP in seven zones.

The BJP on Wednesday secured a decisive victory over the AAP in the MCD zonal ward polls, solidifying its control over the standing committee, the highest decision-making body of the civic agency.

The BJP captured the chairmanship and deputy chairmanship of the zonal-level ward committees and one standing committee member each in seven of the 12 zones. This left AAP with victories in only five zones in a closely contested election.

Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi, who had earlier refused to appoint presiding officers, declared the election 'null and void'. However, intervention by Lt Governor V K Saxena allowed the polls to proceed under tight security, leading to celebrations at the MCD headquarters as the results were announced in favor of the BJP.
