Priti Patel, Britain's former interior minister under Boris Johnson, has been eliminated from the Conservative Party's leadership election. In a vote among the party's lawmakers, Patel secured only 14 votes, placing her last among six candidates.

Robert Jenrick, who left the Sunak government over immigration policies, led the vote with 28 votes. Favored candidate Kemi Badenoch received 22 votes, followed by James Cleverly with 21 votes. Tom Tugenhadt and Mel Stride garnered 17 and 16 votes, respectively.

The five remaining candidates will face another vote next Wednesday, with one more participant to be eliminated. The final candidate selection will occur in October at the party's conference, and the new leader, replacing Sunak, will be announced on November 2. With 121 seats compared to Labour's 404, the Conservative Party faces a steep challenge in the next election.
