Brazil's top foreign policy advisor, Celso Amorim, voiced concerns over the arrest warrant issued for Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez. Amorim labeled the action as 'very concerning' and a sign of rising authoritarianism in Venezuela. Brazil hopes for a peaceful resolution to the political crisis.
Brazil's top foreign policy advisor, Celso Amorim, has strongly criticized the arrest warrant for Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez, calling it 'very concerning' and 'the wrong thing to do'. Speaking to Reuters, Amorim highlighted the escalating authoritarianism in Venezuela and Brazil's commitment to resolving the crisis.
In an interview, Amorim emphasized that Gonzalez's arrest would constitute a political imprisonment, which Brazil does not condone. The warrant, issued by Venezuela's attorney general's office, accuses Gonzalez of conspiracy amidst a contested election with President Nicolas Maduro.
'The election situation in Venezuela is not resolved, we do not see victory for one side or the other,' Amorim noted, reiterating Brazil's diplomatic stance since the disputed vote. Brazil continues to push for a peaceful solution in the neighboring country.
