UN Hails Truce for Child Vaccinations Amid Gaza Conflict
The UN Secretary-General praised temporary ceasefires between Israel and Hamas in Gaza to vaccinate children against polio, calling it a 'rare ray of hope.' The UN urges all parties to extend the same protection to all innocents from the horrors of war.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has commended the recent pauses in fighting between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas in Gaza, labeling it a 'rare ray of hope and humanity in the cascade of horror.'
The brief ceasefires allowed for the vaccination of children against polio, a critical health intervention amid the ongoing conflict.
'If the parties can act to protect children from a deadly virus, surely they can and must act to protect children and all innocents from the horrors of war,' said U.N. spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, urging for a continued focus on humanitarian efforts.
