In a significant political move, Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) president Pawan Kumar Chamling announced the dissolution of all party committees on Monday.

The decision follows SDF's poor showing in the recent assembly elections, securing just one seat, which was subsequently vacated when SDF's lone winner, Tenzing Norbu Lamtha, joined the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM).

Chamling, citing the party's constitution, stated the dissolution was in the larger interest of the SDF. However, he retained the committees on Administrative and Legal Affairs, Social Media Affairs, Publicity Affairs, and Election Committees.

New committees are set to be constituted soon, Chamling added, promising fresh appointments to various posts will follow in due course. This announcement came on the second day of the Central Executive Committee meeting at the party headquarters near the state capital.

The 74-year-old five-term former chief minister's decision marks another turn in his long political career, which saw him lose from both constituencies he contested this year.
