Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Monday expressed grief over the flood situation in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, urging Congress leaders to mobilize aid to support relief and rescue efforts in both states. 'My thoughts are with the people of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as they endure relentless rainfall and devastating floods. I extend my deepest condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones. I urge Congress leaders and workers to mobilize all available resources to support ongoing relief and rescue efforts,' Gandhi said in a post on X.

The Congress leader emphasized that the Telangana Government is working tirelessly to manage the crisis and initiate the rebuilding process. He further posted, 'I strongly urge both the Central Government and the Andhra Pradesh Government to swiftly provide comprehensive rehabilitation packages for all those affected by this disaster.'

The Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy declared immediate assistance of Rs 5 crore to flood-hit districts including Khammam, Bhadradri, Kothagudem, Mahbubabad, and Suryapet. Chief Minister Reddy also announced Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia to the kin of those who died in the floods and instructed authorities to respond quickly to the damage caused. He assured that compensation will be increased for the loss of livestock.

According to the Chief Minister's Office, the State Government will submit a comprehensive report on flood damages to the Central government. Chief Minister Reddy said he will write to the union government seeking immediate assistance and flood relief and appeal to the Centre to declare the floods in the state as a national calamity. Andhra Pradesh Governor S. Abdul Nazeer expressed concern over the heavy rain and floods causing disruption of normal life in Vijayawada and surrounding areas.

Governor Nazeer cautioned people to remain in safer places and not to venture outside except in emergencies with the help of government authorities. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu inspected the flood situation today.

Aerial visuals from Vijayawada showed several areas of the city inundated. Speaking to ANI, Chief Minister Naidu said, 'We are streamlining the system, and 110 boats are currently working to supply food and provide medical assistance. I am regularly monitoring the floods, and officials are actively working on the ground. Since last night, I have visited many flood-affected areas. The public should not panic. We are setting up command and control centers in the flood-affected regions.'
