Congress leader Simi Rosebell John, known for her controversial remarks about the necessity of 'sponsorship' for women leaders to ascend the ranks within the party, has been expelled. The action was taken by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) on Sunday, citing a serious breach of discipline.
The disciplinary measure followed a joint complaint from female members of KPCC's political affairs committee, PCC office-bearers, and the Mahila Congress chief. Based on the complaint, KPCC President K Sudhakaran initiated the expulsion, as stated by KPCC General Secretary M Liju.
Reacting to the expulsion, John declared that women of dignity and pride cannot work within the Congress party and demanded that the party release evidence to substantiate their allegations against her.
