In a notable political development, Ripun Bora, president of the Assam Trinamool Congress, announced his resignation on Sunday. Bora explained that the people of Assam perceive the TMC as a 'regional party' of West Bengal, and efforts to change this perception were unsuccessful.
Bora relayed his concerns in a letter to All India Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. He mentioned that despite numerous suggestions to party leader Mamata Banerjee, aimed at making TMC more acceptable in Assam, none were executed. Suggestions included appointing an Assamese leader at the national level, declaring the residence of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika a heritage site, and converting the Madhupur Satra in Cooch Behar to a cultural hub.
After two years of leadership and failed attempts to address these issues, Bora felt compelled to resign. He thanked Mamata Banerjee for her leadership and expressed his resolve to continue fighting communal and fascist forces on a personal level.
