In a significant political development, expelled Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Lobin Hembrom has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Ranchi, Jharkhand. The event on Saturday saw the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP State unit chief Babulal Marandi, and former Chief Minister Champai Soren, who recently shifted to the BJP as well.
Hembrom, who was expelled from JMM for six years earlier this year, defended his decision to join BJP. He expressed disappointment with the current leadership of JMM, stating that the party under Hemant Soren is no longer the same as it was under former CM Shibu Soren.
Recalling his long association with the JMM, Hembrom said he had always worked for the party's betterment. The state's legislative assembly elections are approaching, with the current government's term ending in 2024, although the Election Commission of India has not yet announced the dates.
Meanwhile, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Champai Soren on Saturday, inviting him to Assam and to dine at his home. Both leaders emphasized their commitment to Jharkhand's development.
Champai Soren, who joined BJP a day earlier, pledged to work for Jharkhand's progress and address issues like Bangladeshi infiltration which he claims threaten tribal villages. Soren resigned from JMM on August 28 and has expressed strong support for BJP's stance on national issues.
