Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh firmly rejected any suggestions of resignation, asserting that his efforts to 'protect' the state retain public support. 'Why should I resign? Have I stolen anything? Is there a scandal against me? Have I worked against the nation or state?' he questioned in an interview with PTI Videos on Thursday.

Despite criticism from opposition parties and accusations from Kuki groups of favoring Meiteis during ethnic clashes that erupted in May last year, Singh defended his record. He attributed the violence to his government's anti-drug initiatives and the crackdown on illegal immigrants, which he claimed saved the state from illegal activities.

Singh's popularity, he said, was evident even in BJP's loss in Lok Sabha seats from Manipur. He acknowledged people's disappointment over his perceived inaction during the violence but stressed his belief in dialogue and peace over retaliation. With 226 lives lost and thousands displaced, Singh emphasized his dedication to serving all communities, including Meiteis, Kukis, and Nagas.
