On Thursday, Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson CR Kesavan blasted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her incendiary remarks suggesting unrest in multiple states if Bengal burns. Kesavan urged the Supreme Court to take suo moto cognizance of what he termed a 'dangerous speech.'

He stated, 'The West Bengal CM's dangerous and inflammatory speech yesterday was nothing short of a brazen threat, blatant intimidation, and an open provocation to incite unrest in our entire nation. The Supreme Court should take suo moto cognizance of this dangerous speech in which she makes a dreaded declaration saying, that if Bengal burns, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, northeast and Delhi will burn. This language of treason, hate, and division could disturb peace in the entire nation.'

Further criticizing Banerjee, Kesavan said she failed women by not providing justice, leading to public outrage. 'As far as Mamata Banerjee's statement of 'Bengal is burning' is concerned, Bengal is indeed burning with public outrage at how Mamata Banerjee has failed as the only woman CM. She has betrayed the trust and faith of the mothers, daughters, and sisters in providing justice,' Kesavan added.

Banerjee's comments came in response to the BJP's 12-hour Bengal Bandh call over a rape and murder incident in Kolkata. She accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of using the BJP to instigate unrest, warning that other states would burn if Bengal did. 'Some people think this is Bangladesh. I love Bangladesh; they speak like us and share our culture. But remember, Bangladesh is a separate country, and India is a separate country. Modi Babu is using his party to cause fire here. If you burn Bengal, Assam, North-East, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi too shall burn! We will topple your chair,' Banerjee said.

Assam Chief Minister also weighed in on social media, criticizing Banerjee's remarks. 'Didi, how dare you threaten Assam? Don't show us red eyes. Don't even try to burn India with your politics of failure. It does not suit you to speak divisive language,' he posted on X.
