Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Tuesday demanded the resignation of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde over the collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's statue in Sindhudurg district, alleging a scam in its construction.
Raut emphasized that even historical adversaries like Aurangzeb did not insult Shivaji Maharaj in such a manner. The 35-foot statue, unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year, collapsed on Monday afternoon, causing public outrage.
Blaming PM Modi, CM Shinde, and Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, Raut claimed the statue's installation was politically motivated. He demanded the sacking of Public Works Department Minister Ravindra Chavan, stating corruption marred the project. Police have registered a case against the contractor and structural consultant.
