Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut's controversial comments about the farmers' protest. In a post on social media platform X, Kharge accused the Modi government of harboring anti-farmer sentiments.
Kharge criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly making false promises, including the formation of a committee on Minimum Support Price (MSP) and doubling farmers' income. He pointed out that PM Modi had derogatorily referred to farmers as 'agitators' and 'parasites' in Parliament and neglected to honor the martyred farmers with a moment of silence.
Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, also condemned Ranaut's statement that likened farmers' protests to potential anarchy. He expressed outrage over the BJP MP's remarks, calling them a blatant insult to farmers. Gandhi underscored that the government's inaction on MSP and continued disrespect towards farmers reveal its anti-farmer stance. The BJP distanced itself from Ranaut's comments, affirming its commitment to social harmony and directing the actress to refrain from making such statements.
