Vietnam Appoints New Deputy Prime Ministers in Personnel Shake-Up
Vietnam's National Assembly has appointed three new deputy prime ministers, a new environment minister, and a new justice minister during an extraordinary meeting. The appointments were made following a period of political turbulence and personnel changes in the country's leadership.
Vietnam's National Assembly convened an extraordinary meeting on Monday to address key personnel changes, culminating in the appointment of three new deputy prime ministers, along with new environment and justice ministers.
The new deputy prime ministers—foreign minister Bui Thanh Son, finance minister Ho Duc Phoc, and chief justice Nguyen Hoa Binh—were introduced in a session broadcast live on national television. The assembly also ended the terms of two deputy prime ministers. Tran Luu Quang was named head of the Communist Party's Central Economic Committee last week, while Le Minh Khai faced disciplinary action by the Politburo for violating party rules earlier this month.
This restructuring follows a phase of political instability that saw the resignation of two state presidents and a parliament speaker amid allegations of wrongdoing. With these latest appointments, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh now has five deputy prime ministers supporting his administration.
