In a strategic move ahead of impending state assembly polls, the JD(U), led by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has appointed legislative council member Ravindra Prasad Singh as the senior vice president of the party's state unit.

The appointment, which has been sanctioned by Kumar and communicated by the party's national general secretary Afaq Ahmed Khan, aims to rally the influential Kurmi community. Singh, a former national secretary, was chosen for a legislative council seat in 2022, signaling JD(U)'s support for grassroots-level workers.

Singh's appointment is seen as a maneuver to solidify JD(U)'s voter base. Meanwhile, the party has been buoyant following the Lok Sabha elections, where it achieved parity with ally BJP in seat count but boasted a superior strike rate.
