The BJP has unveiled an ambitious target to increase its membership by 20,000 in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands during a drive starting in September. BJP National Secretary and Spokesperson Anil Antony described the goal as 'ambitious but achievable' during a press conference on Friday.

'BJP had only 8,126 members in Andaman and Nicobar Islands in 2014. The number rose to 55,000 in 2019,' Antony revealed, outlining the growth trajectory. The membership drive will proceed in phases from September 1 to November 10, with sign-ups available via missed calls, digital platforms, or manual enrollment.

The campaign will include a series of workshops at various levels on August 31. The first phase of the drive runs from September 1 to September 25, followed by a second phase from October 1 to October 31. A special door-to-door initiative is planned for September 25, and a meeting with prominent figures will be held on October 1. The initiative concludes with island-wide digital campaigns on November 10.

M Vinod, BJP State Vice-President and Media-In-Charge, emphasized the importance of both online and offline membership drives, particularly in remote areas with limited mobile and internet access. 'We aim to achieve the target through multiple channels, including paper receipts in areas with connectivity issues. We are optimistic about the region's development,' he said.

This drive follows BJP candidate Bishnu Pada Ray's victory over Congress MP Kuldeep Rai Sharma by 24,087 votes in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
