In a serious development, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee chief Keisham Meghachandra has alleged that the leaked audio tapes featuring purported comments by Chief Minister N Biren Singh have originated from BJP MLAs and ministers.
Meghachandra made these claims during a protest demanding the resignation of SEBI chief Madhabi Buch and the constitution of a joint parliamentary committee to probe the Adani issue. He stressed that the Congress or any other civil society organizations have no involvement with these tapes.
The controversy follows ten Kuki-Zo legislators' call for a judicial commission, led by former Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Ajai Lamba, to investigate the tapes. Meanwhile, the Manipur government asserts that the clips are fake and aims to disrupt peace. The police have initiated an investigation into the source of the audio.
