The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has postponed its planned rally in Islamabad until next month, following directives from its founder and incarcerated former premier, Imran Khan. The decision comes after the government refused to authorize the demonstration.
Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, party leader Azam Swati announced the rally's rescheduling to September 8. Swati noted that the government agreed to the new date, and Khan urged party workers already en route to the venue to return home.
The postponement follows a tense standoff in the capital, with the government closing schools and blocking city entry points to prevent PTI supporters from converging. Officials cited security threats as the reason for revoking the rally's permission, fearing potential violence and sit-ins.
