A commercial ship traveling through the Red Sea came under repeated attack Wednesday, a situation the British military attributes to Yemen's Houthi rebels. The vessel was left 'not under command' following the assault.
The British military's United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center reported men on small boats initially opened fire with small arms before the ship was hit by three projectiles.
The Houthis, orchestrating a months-long campaign against ships since the start of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, have hit over 70 vessels. However, many attacked ships have no direct ties to the conflict. The Houthis allege targeting of Israeli-linked boats, yet several incidents involve vessels with other destinations, including some bound for Iran.
