Former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern will attend the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, according to a spokesperson who confirmed earlier media reports on Monday. Ardern will also participate in a side event at the national convention, the spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

The four-day convention aims to celebrate Kamala Harris' nomination as the party's presidential candidate and is expected to gather thousands in Chicago to show support for Harris, who secured the nomination following President Joe Biden's exit from the race. Ardern previously gained international recognition for her empathetic leadership and effective pandemic response during her tenure as New Zealand's Prime Minister, a role she relinquished in early 2023 citing burnout.

Post-premiership, Ardern has stayed relatively low-key in New Zealand but has continued to engage globally. She has undertaken two fellowships at Harvard, serves on the board of the Earthshot Prize, and is the patron of the newly formed Christchurch Call Foundation.
