Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his best wishes on Thursday to Muhammad Yunus, who took the oath as the head of an interim government in Bangladesh. Modi expressed hope for the early return of normalcy and the safety of Hindus and other minority communities in the country.
Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, aged 84, was administered the oath of office by President Mohammed Shahabuddin at a ceremony at the presidential palace, 'Bangabhaban'. This appointment came after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to India amidst widespread protests against her over a controversial job quota system.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Prime Minister Modi said, ''My best wishes to Professor Muhammad Yunus on the assumption of his new responsibilities. We hope for an early return to normalcy, ensuring the safety and protection of Hindus and all other minority communities.'' Modi reiterated India's commitment to working with Bangladesh to achieve the shared goals of peace, security, and development.
