In anticipation of the Waqf Amendment Bill's introduction in Parliament today, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala criticized the opposition, particularly leaders of the INDI alliance, for opposing what he termed a pro-transparency and pro-good-governance bill.

Poonawala emphasized that opposition to the Waqf Amendment Bill signifies that the leaders are more aligned with land grabbers than with the welfare of the Muslim community. Referring to the Sachar Committee, 9th JPC Report, and Dargah Committee request, he noted that amending Waqf laws has long been a demand of the Muslim community to benefit poor Muslims.

Highlighting the massive land holdings of the Waqf Board and its meager income, Poonawala alleged that only wealthy Muslim families with political backing are troubled by the amendment bill. He charged Congress with empowering the Waqf Board for appeasement politics, thus facilitating land grabbing.
