Congress leader Harish Rawat voiced concerns over the political instability in Bangladesh, highlighting the potential impact on India. 'It's very unfortunate that there is political instability in our neighbouring country Bangladesh. The elected government has tendered resignation and the PM of Bangladesh has left the country. This is a matter of concern. India enjoys a good bilateral relationship with Bangladesh. We want the situation to become normal in Bangladesh,' Rawat stated.
Rawat emphasized the need for increased vigilance in the bordering states with Bangladesh. 'The central government would be aware of the situation, and it would make an impact on our bordering states with Bangladesh. This is unfortunate that a democratically elected government has been humiliated in this way. Sheikh Hasina was a leader well-known in the international circle. She had good relations with India. Whatever situation may arise we hope India's interests are secured and Bangladesh would move towards normalising democratic rule. And the military rule will be for a very limited period,' he added.
Earlier, Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina consulted with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval regarding the situation in Bangladesh and her future plans at the Hindon Air Base in Ghaziabad on Monday, sources said. The Indian Air Force has put its personnel on alert in every eastern sector due to the recent developments.
The Indian Air Force and other security agencies are ensuring Sheikh Hasina's safety by relocating her to a secure location, as per reports. PM Sheikh Hasina arrived at Hindon Air Base near New Delhi in a C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft on Monday evening. Heightened security measures have been enforced outside the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi following her arrival.
Furthermore, a senior BSF officer has stated that they are in constant communication with the Border Guard Bangladesh regarding the current situation. 'As of now, the situation is normal at the border. Due to the curfew in Bangladesh, there are restrictions on traffic movement at Integrated Check Posts along the India-Bangladesh border,' the officer reported.
Protesters in Dhaka set fire to the office of Awami League president Sheikh Hasina, chanting slogans and celebrating her resignation.
