Trinamool Congress MP Derek O'Brien, on Monday, demanded discussions in Rajya Sabha over the functioning of the Home and Defence ministries, urging the government to consult state governments and stakeholders before making any policy decisions.
During the discussion on the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, O'Brien stressed the need to 'think nationally and act locally,' accusing the government of being opposed to the spirit of consultation. He took aim at the BJP for its lack of majority in recent Lok Sabha elections and warned against 'grand announcements' like the International Solar Alliance which, according to him, had zero follow-through.
O'Brien pointed out the failures of schemes such as PM KUSUM and the Green Hydrogen mission, advocating for reduced dependency on countries like China, Thailand, and Vietnam. He criticized the government for avoiding discussions on home and defence-related issues despite requests from opposition parties, highlighting incidents related to China as evidence of government reluctance. BJP's Laxmikant Bajpayee defended the government's renewable energy initiatives, emphasizing significant investments and commitments to sustainable development.
