Elon Musk-Backed Political Action Committee Under Investigation in Michigan

A political action committee endorsed by billionaire Elon Musk is currently under scrutiny by Michigan authorities for potential violations of state laws, a spokesperson for the Michigan secretary of state's office announced on Sunday.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously stated he had created a PAC focused on supporting candidates, albeit without pledging allegiance to anyone. The Musk-backed America PAC has been gathering detailed voter information from residents in Michigan and other states through a 'register to vote' section on its website, as reported by CNBC.

The Michigan Department of State is evaluating the activities of America PAC to determine if there have been breaches of state law and will refer potential violations to the Michigan Attorney General's office if necessary, according to a spokesperson for Jocelyn Benson, Michigan's secretary of state. The public should be aware of how their personal information is utilized by PACs, especially those claiming to assist in voter registration.

Currently in the preliminary stages of the investigation, the Michigan Department of State has not confirmed a specific focus. Neither the Michigan Attorney General's office nor America PAC has responded to requests for comment. Musk was also unavailable for immediate comment.

Musk, the world's richest individual, has publicly supported Donald Trump in the U.S. presidential race. In recent years, he has adopted right-wing viewpoints, including criticizing diversity initiatives and Biden's immigration policies, and has expressed discontent with the Democratic Party's attitude toward his companies, Tesla and SpaceX.
