Khaled Mahmud has resigned as a Director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), according to a report by ESPNCricinfo on Wednesday. The BCB's CEO, Nizamuddin Chowdhury, confirmed the news. Mahmud, a former national captain, is the latest board director to step down following the resignations of Jalal Yunus and Naimur Rahman, and Ahmed Sajjadul Alam's removal. Mahmud notified the board of his resignation via email, concluding his 11-year service.

At his departure, Mahmud was both the BCB's game development chairman and cricket operations vice-chairman. Over the past 18 years, he held multiple roles within the BCB, including team manager, assistant coach, and board director. Mahmud managed not only to serve the board but also coached Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and Dhaka Premier League (DPL) teams.

In 2015, Mahmud resumed his role as Bangladesh team manager and was later made a selector when BCB chief Nazmul Hassan expanded the selection committee in 2016. Mahmud took on the role of technical director after Chandika Hathurusinghe's departure, ultimately serving as the head coach in early 2018. Despite concerns over conflict of interest, Mahmud continued to serve in multiple capacities. He was the interim coach for the 2019 ODI series against Sri Lanka and remained team director during a poor 2023 World Cup campaign in India.

Mahmud's career in Bangladesh cricket has been marked by significant achievements. He was pivotal in leading the U19 team to a World Cup victory in 2020. Among his other accolades are a BPL title with Dhaka Dynamites in 2016 and numerous DPL titles with Abahani Limited, including the 2023-24 season. As a player, Mahmud represented Bangladesh in 12 Tests and 77 ODIs, and was lauded for his performance in the famous 1999 Cricket World Cup win over Pakistan, although his captaincy of the team in nine Tests and 15 ODIs did not yield any victories.
