Masked assailants ransacked the headquarters of Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado early Friday, further escalating the violence against opponents of President Nicolás Maduro following the disputed presidential election.
The attackers broke down doors and confiscated important documents and equipment in a raid conducted around 3 am, according to Machado's party. Images shared online showed walls defaced with black spray paint.
Despite threats of arrest, Machado remains in hiding and continues to urge Venezuelans and the international community to challenge the election results, which the U.S. has disputed, recognizing opposition candidate Edmundo González as the true victor.
