A devastating explosion in Balochistan's Pishin district on Saturday resulted in the deaths of two children and a woman, while 13 others, including two police officers, were injured, according to hospital officials cited by Dawn. The blast occurred at the main market near Surkhab Chowk, marking the latest in a series of attacks on law enforcement in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
The escalation of violence comes in the wake of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) reneging on a ceasefire agreement with the government in 2022, pledging to target security forces. Wakeel Sherani, the medical superintendent at Pishin Civil Hospital, provided a list of casualties, confirming the deaths of two children and the initial injury count of 14. At the Quetta Trauma Centre, one of the injured women succumbed to her injuries.
SHO Mujibur Rehman of Pishin City reported that the explosive was planted in a motorcycle, which damaged three vehicles. The Counter-Terrorism Department and Bomb Disposal Squad are currently collecting evidence. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack, demanding the best medical care for the injured and exemplary punishment for those responsible.
