Gulab Chand Kataria, a veteran leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was sworn in as the Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh on Wednesday. The 79-year-old, who replaced Banwarilal Purohit, made a commitment to serve the people of Punjab to the best of his ability.

In a statement to the media post-ceremony, Kataria highlighted that the presidency had entrusted him with a significant responsibility. 'I will make all efforts to carry it out like a good public servant. These posts are not decoration; they are for serving people,' he said.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Raj Bhavan and was administered by Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Sheel Nagu. The event saw the presence of multiple dignitaries including Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, as well as several other ministers and family members.
