On Wednesday, former Union minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar took the oath of office as the 12th governor of Jharkhand. The ceremony was conducted by Acting Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court, Sujit Narayan Prasad.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Chief Secretary L Khiangte, along with other ministers and dignitaries, attended the event. Gangwar, aged 76, expressed his gratitude towards the prime minister and the central government for the appointment, while highlighting his optimism for Jharkhand's development under Chief Minister Soren's leadership.

Gangwar has had a long political journey, serving eight terms as a BJP MP and holding ministerial roles in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Narendra Modi-led governments. Despite not being fielded by the BJP in the last Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah had assured him of a new role.
