Former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle endorsed U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential bid on Friday. This support from top Democrats aims to consolidate efforts against Republican candidate Donald Trump as the Nov. 5 election approaches. The endorsement came shortly after President Joe Biden, 81, announced he would not seek reelection due to rising opposition within his party.

In an online video, Obama told Harris, "Michelle and I couldn't be prouder to endorse you and to do everything we can to get you through this election and into the Oval Office." Harris, visibly pleased, expressed her gratitude, noting their long-standing friendship. If she wins in November, she will become the first Black woman, first Asian American, and first female U.S. president.

The poll numbers indicate that Obama and Michelle's popularity could bolster Harris' campaign. An early October Reuters/Ipsos poll revealed that 55% of Americans view Michelle Obama favorably compared to Harris' 37%. Obama has previously supported Biden through major fundraising events, and his endorsement is expected to boost Harris' campaign.
