Nation Celebrates 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas: Minister Highlights India’s Defence Self-Reliance Under Modi

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership on the landmark 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas, underscoring India's transformation into a self-reliant defense powerhouse. Addressing the media, Vaishnaw highlighted that nearly 70% of defense products are now manufactured domestically, with production value surpassing Rs 1 lakh crore. Public Sector Units in the defence sector have seen unprecedented growth, and India now exports 'Made in India' defense products to 80 countries, worth Rs 25,000 crore.
Speaking on infrastructure, Vaishnaw emphasized the construction of more than 6,800 kilometres of roads in border areas over the past decade. He also noted advancements in railways, telecom, and optical fiber connectivity, significantly benefitting soldiers. Vaishnaw credited PM Modi's initiatives for these developments, contrasting them with the previous Congress government's record.
Vaishnaw also discussed structural reforms, particularly the creation of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) post, which has enhanced the integration and effectiveness of the armed forces. Earlier in the day, PM Modi paid homage to the Kargil War heroes at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass, Ladakh, marking the 25th anniversary of Operation Vijay. The annual Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorates India's military success in reclaiming strategic positions in 1999.
