Joint China-Russia Air Patrols Intensify Near North America

Two Chinese and two Russian long-range bombers were tracked flying over international waters near Alaska on Wednesday. US and Canadian fighter jets were deployed in response, the joint aerospace command reported.

The activity is not perceived as a threat, according to the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). China and Russia confirmed on Thursday that a joint air patrol was conducted over the Bering Sea, dividing Russia and Alaska.

NORAD stated that it would continue to monitor activities near North America. In recent years, China has become a new actor in the region as its navy and air force extend their reach.
