A coalition of Tamil parties, except the primary party ITAK, has agreed to field a unified candidate for the upcoming presidential election in Sri Lanka, scheduled later this year.
Last week, the election commission announced that the date for the highly anticipated presidential election will be disclosed by month's end. Sources indicate the election will occur between September 17 and October 16.
The Tamil Eelam Liberation Organisation (TELO), People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE), Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA), Tamil National People's Front (TNPF), and Eelam People's Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF), together with the Tamil People's Congress Association (TPCA), formalized this agreement in Jaffna, according to sources.
