Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday stressed the importance of the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections for safeguarding tribals and Hindus, citing rising Bangladeshi infiltration.
Sarma, BJP's election co-incharge for Jharkhand, voiced his concerns in Ranchi's Prabhat Tara Ground, where he addressed party workers during an extended executive committee meeting. Sarma warned that Jharkhand might follow Assam and West Bengal in witnessing significant demographic shifts due to Bangladeshi infiltration.
The Chief Minister noted that the Muslim population in some Jharkhand districts is now at 30 per cent and highlighted similar trends in Assam, which he claimed could become a Muslim-majority state by 2041 if the infiltration continues.
He criticized the JMM-led government for failing to curb the infiltration and proposed a law to prevent infiltrators from marrying tribal women to acquire land. Sarma accused the administration of discriminatory practices, stating that Ram Navami rallies face restrictions while Muharram processions proceed, citing unrest and displays of Palestinian flags during recent processions.
He assured voters that a BJP government in Jharkhand would enact stringent measures against such activities. Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, also present, emphasized the need to oust the JMM-led government to protect Jharkhand, detailing alleged crimes and developments funded by the central government.
