Former Madhya Pradesh High Court judge Rohit Arya has officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, just three months after his retirement. Arya cited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's public-oriented developmental work and the BJP's policies as his primary reasons for joining the party.

Interestingly, Arya, in 2021, denied bail to stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui, who was accused of hurting religious sentiments during a show in Indore, along with another accused.

Arya made his declaration after addressing a workshop at the BJP office in Bhopal, where he praised the newly-introduced Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) as a crucial reform aimed at providing justice to common people. He contrasted the BNS with British-era laws that were more punitive in nature.

Expressing gratitude towards the Central government, Arya predicted that BNS would bring about significant reforms. "To change the Indian Penal Code to Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita is a big thing. I express my gratitude towards the Central government for this. In the days to come, BNS will bring reforms in people's lives," he said.

Arya, who retired from the MP High Court on April 27, 2024, reiterated his commitment to the mental and physical health of marginalized citizens as essential for the country's overall economic development.

Arya also addressed his controversial judgement in the Faruqui case, stating that he has delivered many impactful judgments for public causes. "I don't know why people remind themselves of that order. I had delivered many good judgments on public causes," he remarked.

During his career, Arya launched the "Samadhan aapke dwara" initiative in Gwalior, significantly increasing the number of resolved cases in judiciary-led problem-solving sessions. He claimed a staggering increase in case resolutions from 5,000 to 1.49 lakh in a single day.
