KP Sharma Oli, the head of Nepal's largest communist party, has been appointed as Prime Minister for a fourth term following a political shakeup resulting from a failed vote of confidence against predecessor Pushpa Kamal Dahal, known as 'Prachanda.'

President Ram Chandra Paudel officially appointed Oli to lead a new coalition government, backed by 165 members from the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) and the Nepali Congress party. Oli is expected to be sworn in on Monday at Shital Niwas, the President's residence, and must secure a vote of confidence within 30 days.

Oli has previously served as Nepal's Prime Minister multiple times and is tasked with stabilizing a nation that has seen 14 different governments in the last 16 years. His government is anticipated to include several other political parties and aims to govern on a rotational basis with the Nepali Congress until the 2027 general elections.
