The tenure of Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) National President JP Nadda has come to an end. Although his term was extended until June 2024, he has now been tasked with significant responsibilities within the government. Consequently, the BJP aims to appoint a new national president by December this year, with the election process commencing on August 1.

In preparation for the election, the BJP will launch a comprehensive membership drive starting August 1, running until September 15. This will be followed by an active membership campaign from September 16 to September 30. Verification of active memberships is scheduled from October 1 to October 15. According to the BJP party constitution, members must renew their membership every nine years, including top officials like the Prime Minister and party president.

The election for Mandal (local unit) presidents will take place from November 1 to November 15, followed by district president elections from November 16 to November 30. Sources within the BJP indicate that the elections for members of the state and central councils will follow. Once these are held, the process for selecting state presidents will begin on December 1. After elections in 50% of the states are completed, the official process to elect the national president will commence, ensuring a robust organisation ready for leadership transition.

Notably, JP Nadda has recently been appointed as the Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha. Nadda, elected as Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat, also holds the Health, Chemicals, and Fertilizers portfolio in the Modi 3.0 cabinet, post the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. (ANI)
