Taiwan President Lai Ching-te extended his gratitude to Micron's Chief Executive Sanjay Mehrotra for the company's continuous investment on the island. This acknowledgment came during a rare public meeting with a senior foreign tech executive.

Despite Taiwan being home to TSMC, the world's largest contract chipmaker, publicized meetings with senior foreign tech executives are uncommon. The President thanked Mehrotra for Micron's long-term commitment to Taiwan's DRAM technology and HBM chips used in advanced AI systems.

President Lai emphasized Taiwan's hopes for Micron to expand its R&D capabilities, ensuring the island remains at the forefront of innovation. He also reiterated Taiwan's efforts to provide a welcoming environment for foreign talents, aligning with the needs of tech companies.

Mehrotra reciprocated the gesture, stating it was an honor to meet with the President. Notably, the meeting was absent from Lai's official schedule and came amidst ongoing pressure from China, which contests Taiwan's sovereignty.
