Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday claimed that the 'disease of unemployment' has taken the form of an epidemic in India, particularly in BJP-ruled states.

Gandhi's remarks followed a stampede-like situation that occurred in Ankleshwar, Gujarat, where some 800 job seekers turned up for walk-in interviews for just 40 vacancies. Viral videos showed a massive queue and chaotic pushing and shoving, resulting in the collapse of a ramp railing. No injuries were reported.

In a post in Hindi on X, Gandhi criticized the BJP, stating that the queue of job seekers is 'the reality of Narendra Modi's Amrit Kaal.' Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge added that the incident is proof of BJP's failure to provide jobs and accused the government of ruining the future of the youth through various schemes and recruitment issues.
