Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has issued a stern critique of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's administration over its management of the IMF agreement and dependence on foreign loans. Zardari vowed his commitment to the public and promised decisive actions by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

In July 2023, the IMF sanctioned a USD 3 billion Stand-By Arrangement for Pakistan, enabling the country to stabilize its economy and support social and development expenditures. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has warned of continued reliance on IMF bailouts if tax revenue is not increased.

Zardari accused the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party of mismanagement. He also promised PPP leaders that their concerns would be addressed, and reiterated the PPP's role in Pakistani politics as pivotal, urging for strengthened efforts and youth leadership within the party. He also backed the plan to tax large agricultural incomes, in line with IMF requirements. Prime Minister Sharif has pursued investments from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and China alongside the IMF initiative.
