Former U.S. president and current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will address Bitcoin 2024 in Nashville, Tennessee, on July 27, the conference organizers announced on Wednesday.
Trump, who is running against Democratic President Joe Biden in the upcoming U.S. election, positioned himself as a cryptocurrency advocate during a San Francisco fundraiser in June, criticizing Democratic regulatory efforts.
The cryptocurrency industry is increasingly seeking to influence U.S. politicians amid heightened regulatory scrutiny following major bankruptcies in 2022 that exposed fraud and left investors at a loss. 'Trump announced his support for the American Bitcoin industry in May 2024, advocating for financial freedom and growth on the global stage,' the organizers stated, highlighting Trump as the main headliner. Trump also expressed a desire for more U.S.-based Bitcoin mining. Executives from crypto exchange Coinbase and other industry leaders attended the June fundraiser where Trump raised $12 million. The White House under Biden has expressed willingness to work with Congress on developing a cryptocurrency regulatory framework.
