Uttar Pradesh government cabinet minister Om Prakash Rajbhar has called on the opposition to formally suggest an alternative investigation agency if they are dissatisfied with the Special Investigation Team's (SIT) probe into the Hathras stampede incident. He emphasized that the government is open to further investigation if necessary.

The accident took place on July 2 during a Satsang in Sikandra Rao, Hathras, leading to the government's order for an SIT investigation. The team compiled statements from several individuals, including administrative and police officials, and eyewitnesses. Media photographs and video clippings were also part of the investigation.

The SIT's preliminary findings identified event organizers as primarily responsible for the stampede. Om Prakash Rajbhar stated that if the opposition is unsatisfied with the report, they should indicate in writing which agency should conduct a new investigation. He criticized the opposition for only pointing out mistakes without providing constructive solutions.

The incident led to the suspension of six officials, including the local SDM, CO, Tehsildar, Inspector, and two Chowki in charges, for negligence. The investigative committee also held the program organizer and local police and administration accountable for inviting more participants than permitted, resulting in the deadly stampede.

The tragic event occurred at the Satsang by self-styled godman Suraj Pal, alias 'Bhole Baba,' in Fulari village. The main accused, Devprakash Madhukar, was remanded to 14 days of judicial custody by the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. The bodies of all 121 victims have been handed over to their families.
