Keir Starmer on Friday pledged a period of 'national renewal' as Britain's Prime Minister-elect after the Labour Party secured a monumental victory in the UK general election, gaining over 200 seats. Outgoing Conservative leader Rishi Sunak conceded defeat, marking the party's worst loss in history.

Starmer, 61, is preparing to take the reins at 10 Downing Street after his audience with King Charles III, following Sunak's final meeting with the monarch. Labour surpassed the 326-seat majority needed in the House of Commons in the early hours of Friday, prompting Starmer to deliver a victory speech in London, stating, 'Change begins now. And it feels good, I have to be honest.'

'A mandate like this comes with a great responsibility. Our task is nothing less than renewing the ideas that hold this country together. National renewal,' Starmer declared. Meanwhile, Sunak retained his Richmond and Northallerton seat but couldn't reverse his party's national decline, losing 250 MPs in Thursday's election.
