Leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, stated on Friday that administrative lapses contributed to the tragic Hathras stampede incident, which claimed over 100 lives. However, he emphasized that he did not want to politicize the matter.

Speaking to reporters after meeting the victims' families in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, Gandhi expressed grief over the loss of lives, stating, 'It is a matter of grief that so many families have suffered, so many people lost their lives.' He reiterated that his stance was not politically motivated, 'I don't want to speak from a political prism but there have been some lapses on the part of the administration,' the senior Congress leader remarked.

Arriving early Friday morning, Gandhi traveled by road from Delhi to Hathras, accompanied by state Congress chief Ajay Rai, state Congress in-charge Avinash Pande, party spokesperson Supriya Shrinate, and other party officials. The Congress delegation reached Vibhav Nagar colony's Green Park in Hathras around 9 am, where they interacted with families of the deceased, including UP Congress chief Rai and local district president Chandragupta Vikramaditya during the discussions. On Tuesday, a stampede at a satsang led by self-styled godman Baba Bhole resulted in the death of 121 people, mostly women.
