A senior leader from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has accused Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of engaging in a "personal political vendetta" against former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who is said to be on her deathbed due to a lack of advanced medical treatment abroad.

According to a report in The Daily Star, 78-year-old Khaleda Zia was rushed to Evercare Hospital in an ambulance on Saturday after falling ill at her residence in Gulshan. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed disappointment at the government's inaction, stating, "It's our misfortune that our leader Khaleda Zia is now in critical condition without receiving necessary medical treatment abroad."

Alamgir further accused the government of keeping Zia imprisoned for an extended period out of political vindictiveness. He revealed that although Zia was allowed to stay at home, she remains under strict confinement. The medical board has recommended that Zia requires treatment in a multidisciplinary hospital in a developed country, a suggestion ignored by Sheikh Hasina, according to Alamgir.
