Chief Minister Eknath Shinde of Maharashtra has emphasized the government's commitment to preventing caste tensions in society. Shinde's comments come as Marathas and OBCs solidify their stances on reservations.

Expressing gratitude to OBC activist Laxman Hake for ending his indefinite fast due to government intervention, Shinde reassured reporters in Nashik, stating, "We will ensure there is no caste tension in society." Hake and Navnath Waghmare had been fasting since June 13 to prevent the dilution of the OBC quota.

Following a meeting with OBC leaders in Mumbai, Shinde announced an all-party meeting in the first week of the monsoon session starting June 27, to further discuss extending reservations.

In January, the state proposed granting Kunbi status to Marathas' kin from the Kunbi community. Activist Manoj Jarange demands OBC reservations for all Marathas, while OBC leaders want the draft notification repealed.

Addressing the Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority's decision to increase water charges by 10%, Shinde noted his pro-farmer stance, blaming the previous government's mandate for the hike. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis supported this position, accusing the opposition of spreading misinformation.
