A video of newly-elected BJP MP Bishnu Pada Ray from Andaman and Nicobar Islands threatening non-supporters in his speech has gone viral, sparking controversy. However, Ray clarified that his remarks were misunderstood.
During his speech, Ray suggested that while general tasks would be accomplished, those who didn't vote for him should reconsider their stance. He explained that his statement highlighted the misrule and corruption under the previous Congress government. 'My statement was against people who misled my Nicobarese brothers and sisters during the election,' Ray stated, emphasizing the role of the CBI.
Ray added, 'It is unfortunate that my statement was misinterpreted. I pointed out the misrule and corruption in Nicobar district during the Congress tenure,' he told PTI. Ray reassured that his comments were not directed against the Nicobarese tribe but were focused on those involved in corrupt practices during the elections.
Ray secured the Andaman and Nicobar Islands seat from Congress candidate Kuldeep Rai Sharma by around 24,000 votes. He also mentioned being met by Nicobarese elders, who congratulated him and invited him for a visit, promising to address the issues facing the tribal community.
'I am dedicated to serving the people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands during my current term. I am currently working on a 100-day roadmap for the region,' added the BJP MP.
