Hitting out at the newly elected Samajwadi party MP Mohibullah Nadvi for his "jails are correction home" remarks, Samajwadi Party leader Tazeen Fatma on Thursday said that it might be possible that the Mohibullah has a good experience of going to jails. "He (Mohibullah) said that jails are correctional homes. It seems that he has good experience of going to jail and that he has visited jail earlier," Tazeen Fatma told ANI.

Mohibullah Nadvi who is a cleric in a mosque at Parliament Street, New Delhi was the INDIA bloc's candidate on the SP ticket from the Rampur seat. He defeated BJP's Ghanshyam Singh Lodhi by a margin of more than 87,000 votes. Rampur has been a bastion for Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan who has been an MLA from Rampur Sadar seat 10 times. Khan reached the Uttar Pradesh Assembly for the first time in June 1980 from Rampur on a Janata Party (Secular) ticket. He also became MP from this seat in 2019. Azam Khan is currently lodged in the Sitapur jail.

Fatma who is the wife of Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan also congratulated Ruchi Vira for her victory from the Moradabad Lok Sabha seat. "I congratulate Ruchi Vira for her victory. I also want to thank the people of Moradabad for contributing towards strengthening the Samajwadi Party," she said.

Ruchi Vira defeated BJP's Kunwar Sarvesh Kumar by a margin of 1,05,762 votes in the Lok Sabha polls. The Moradabad seat witnessed a drama recently when two Samajwadi party candidates ST Hasan and Ruchi Veera both filed their nominations from the seat.

However, SP's choice was Ruchi Veera. Afterwards, Hasan stepped back and said that it was the choice of the party. It can choose whoever it wants. In a major setback to the BJP, it gained only 33 seats against 63 in the 2019 LS polls, with the vote share being 41.37 per cent. Some of the most-watched seats which the BJP lost include -- Faizabad, Amethi, and Raebareli.

The Samajwadi Party, on the other hand, secured 37 seats by itself, thus witnessing a massive improvement in the state. The vote share of the SP stood at 33.59 per cent. (ANI)
